Functional & Technical Specification

The most important step in the management of any online project is specifying the exact scope and functionality to be built. Defining this defines what the outcomes of the project will be, and ensuring this document is thorough and concise will ensure the expectations of the client have been met, and that both parties are clear on what the deliverables of the project will be. The level of detail in each specification document should include a sitemap and workflow of every interaction that a user is able to perform. Accompanies by wireframes which directly illustrate screen elements (but not necessarily the design).

Projects

CSR Hebel - The CSR Hebel website had many user initiated interactions such as dealer search & project finder. The functional specification needed to illustrate how this was going o be achieved.
Sony Australia - The functional and Technical specification needed to convey to the client how we intended to integrate the e-commerce components (Buy Now, shopping cart etc) into the existing Website Design & Architecture.

Information Architecture

So your site isn't performing very well, the first thing that is often considered is the design of the website, but the largest factor often overlooked is the information itself. The way information is presented on your website needs to be looked at from the perspective of the target audience. They say its not easy to put yourself in another persons shoes, but that's exactly what i do when i look at the information architecture of a website. By taking on the mindset of the target audience, i'm able to provide an insight into their browsing habits & attitudes to the internet to be able to architect a unique information solution for any client.

Projects

Solahart - In addition to a re-design, i conducted a complete Information Architecture analysis which measurably improved the usability of the website.
Ezypay - To improve usability for the different target audiences from a range of industries, the IA of the Ezypay website was adjusted to provide a better user experience for these audiences.

eDM Design & Deployment

There is an art to deploying email communications to a targeted audience. Beyond getting the email to display correctly across a range of email clients, getting the target to read your email amongst the clutter of spam is an art to be mastered, it takes experience. I've developed & deployed over 100 email marketing pieces over the past 10 years.

Projects

Volvo - Weekly emails to potential volvo customers who had opted-in to receive email marketing, informing them of test drive offers in their area.
Huggies - In conjunction with the Huggies website re-design i managed the design & development of 9 milestone eDMs for pregnant mothers informing them of what to expect at each milestone in their pregnancy.

Google Analytics

Ensuring your website is making an impact, and ensuring that people are able to use your website in the way it was intended can be measured through analytics. Since its inception, i have been using Google's state-of-the-art Analytics tool to not only review the basic Analytics functions of Page views, time on site, user paths etc, but the more sophisticated functionality to analyse website performance & targets to manage ongoing maintenance requirements to meet website objectives.

Setting up page filtering, target funnels, specific link tracking etc allows a much more in depth analysis of how users are using your website, how they are finding the information, even what keywords they are using in the search functionality on your site.

Projects

Ezypay - Google Analytics allowed me to see which areas of the site were performing better than others, and adjust the content & homepage promotions accordingly.
Solahart - GA provided us with the pattern of user behavior on the new Solahart website, confirming our IA tactic was correct, and the usability of the new website has been vastly improved from the old site.

Copy & technical writing

Ensuring your website uses a language that your audience can understand is paramount. Knowing your target audience lets you decide whether to use jargon & technical terminology in place of words & phases in common usage, or if your tone needs to be light & simple to convey more technical information to a discerning audience.
